"The Killing of a Sacred Deer" (2017) is a psychological thriller film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The movie explores themes of guilt, morality, and the consequences of our actions.
The story revolves around Steven Murphy (played by Colin Farrell), a successful cardiovascular surgeon, and his family. Steven befriends Martin (Barry Keoghan), a teenage boy seeking guidance in his studies and personal life. However, as the relationship between Steven and Martin deepens, an unsettling and mysterious connection between the two begins to emerge.
Martin reveals a dark secret to Steven: Steven was involved in a surgical operation that resulted in the death of Martin's father. Seeking revenge, Martin presents Steven with an impossible choice - he must choose one member of his family to sacrifice in order to lift the curse of guilt that Martin has placed upon them.
As the tension escalates, Steven is forced to make an unimaginable decision. He must confront the moral dilemma of choosing who lives and who dies. This leads to a terrifying chain of events that affect not only Steven and his family but also raises questions about the nature of justice and personal responsibility.
